Conference Family Justice Centers in Romania

From 20 to 22 April, a three-day conference took place in Iași, bringing together a wide range of professionals working on domestic violence. The event was organised by the Community Safety and Mediation Center (CMSC), represented by its Executive President, Laura Albu.

Important step

The conference focused on training, capacity building and networking. It also marked an important step in the preparation for the rollout of eight Family Justice Centers across Romania in the coming years.

European Family Justice Center Alliance

Several representatives of the European Family Justice Center Alliance contributed to the programme. Pascale Franck, Valerie Swennen and Dries Wyckmans delivered a series of interactive workshops. Topics included the Family Justice Center model and its role in high-risk domestic violence cases, non-lethal strangulation and forced suicide, and risk assessment, identification and referral of high-risk cases, including the role of the police. Their sessions emphasised the importance of a coordinated, multidisciplinary response.

GREVIO-members

The conference also featured contributions from GREVIO-members Aleid van der Brink and Marie-Claude Hofner. They highlighted the importance of a victim-oriented approach and the critical role of the medical sector in addressing domestic violence. Participants included multidisciplinary teams from Iași and Vaslui counties, as well as police officers, medical professionals, and women’s rights NGOs. The event created a strong foundation for future collaboration and underlined the shared commitment to improving responses to domestic violence in Romania.
