Bio Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou

Dr. Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou is the President of GREVIO since June 2023 and has been a member of GREVIO since April 2019. She is a legal consultant specializing in human rights with a strong emphasis on women’s and children’s rights. She is also Vice-Director of the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (INGO), a member of the Greek National Commission for Human Rights, and regularly provides human rights training to legal professionals in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the Academy of European Law, and national Bar Associations and Judicial Schools.

Dr. Kostopoulou has served as Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child, Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee for the Rights of the Child, and Chairperson of the Group of Experts on Responses to Violence against Children. Between 2018 and 2019, she was a member of the Greek delegation to the Lanzarote Committee. For several years, she was a member of the Consultative Board of the HELP Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals. Since 2016, she has been the HELP Info Point for the Athens Bar Association and a certified national tutor for human rights training.

Until 2024, she was a member of the Executive Committee of senior experts of the European Network of Legal Experts in Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination.

She holds a PhD in Law and four Master’s degrees with distinction in International and Comparative Family Law, International and European Legal Studies, Civil Law, and Labor Law. She is the author or co-author of more than 50 publications in Greek, English, and French, including monographs, books, articles, reports, contributions to collective volumes, and Council of Europe editions.
