Training for the Family Justice Center Aruba
The EFJCA was recently in Aruba to provide training for the Family Justice Center Aruba. On 18 June, the building and set-up locally was discussed, with police, forensic physician and coordinator of FJC Aruba. On Thursday 19 and Friday 20 June 2025, four sessions were held.
The sessions on the Family Justice Center (FJC) model, were held by Pascale Franck (EFJCA) and Tanja Hoogwerf (FJC Filomena Rotterdam). The sessions were designed for judicial, forensic, and social sector partners in Aruba who are involved in the development and implementation of the FJC on the island.
The sessions were coordinated and hosted by Daphny Tecklenborg, coordinator of FJC Aruba, in collaboration with Directie Voogdijraad and Directie Volksgezondheid.
The two-day program included the following sessions:
- Two Plenary sessions for Police, forensic physician and victim support. The trainers exchanged on the FJC model and how it can work in Aruba: the building up, how the multidisciplinary collaboration works, the results achieved,... The session included reflections on how the model could be adapted to the local context in Aruba.
- Session on Information sharing between disciplines. This session focused on how information flows are structured within an FJC, addressing privacy, confidentiality, and the "need-to-know" principle, with Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Forensic Physician, Public Prosecutor’s Office, and District Chiefs.
- Training for the social sector. Help-seeking behavior & ACEs. Facilitated in collaboration with the Department of Public Health, this training responded to a request for deeper insight into the dynamics of help-seeking behavior, victim blaming, response strategies, and the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) framework.
